Project Overview
PJC Plumbing was engaged by the Canterbury-Bankstown Council to carry out urgent sewer repairs at Roberts Park, a well-used public space in the heart of Greenacre. The park’s ageing sewer system had been causing foul odours, slow drainage and other signs of hidden damage—raising both environmental and public safety concerns.
Our objective was clear: deliver a fast, reliable, and minimally disruptive sewer line repair in Bankstown, ensuring that community use of the park could resume as quickly as possible.
Challenges
Access restrictions: The sewer line ran beneath active pedestrian areas, requiring careful staging to keep the park safe and accessible during works.
Tree root intrusions: Large roots from surrounding trees had infiltrated multiple pipe joints, creating significant blockages.

Our Approach
1. Detailed Sewer System Assessment
Using CCTV camera technology, our team conducted a full sewer system maintenance check at Robert’s Park, pinpointing exact areas of intrusion, cracking, and misalignment.
2. Trenchless Pipe Relining
Rather than excavate large areas of the park, we used trenchless technology to reline sections of damaged pipes. This method minimised surface damage and reduced downtime—a critical factor for high-traffic public park sewer repairs.
3. Targeted Excavation and Root Removal
In sections where tree roots had caused structural compromise, we carefully exposed the affected pipes, removed intrusions, and replaced the pipe segments with durable PVC piping.
4. Full Site Restoration
Once the sewer repairs at Roberts Park were completed, we reinstated all disturbed areas with new turf, mulch, and paving, ensuring the site was safe and visually restored for public use.
